UTSI

SCADA Consulting Services for ICS and SCADA Modernization

At UTSI, our SCADA consulting team is dedicated to providing solutions that make industrial control systems safer, faster, and easier to manage. We assist energy and transportation companies in improving performance, security, and scalability. Our experts support operators through every part of ICS and SCADA modernization, including design, implementation, testing, and support. Whether you need help with CRM or project management, UTSI offers guidance tailored to your operations.

Project Management Services

UTSI has completed many small, medium, and large SCADA projects for operators on five continents. This has given us a deep understanding of what it takes to organize, track, and finish complex technology projects. Our project management services cover nearly every aspect of these projects, including mechanical, civil, electrical, architectural, communications, and automation work. We ensure that each operator’s goals are met. Most domestic projects focus on SCADA replacements and often include new control and data centers. International projects may involve major updates to infrastructure, new instrumentation, and facilities for communications and control/data. In all cases, UTSI guides projects from initial planning to final completion efficiently and reliably.

System Design & Implementation

UTSI started as a technical resource that offered design, development, and support services to operators of critical infrastructure industrial control systems. Over time, our services evolved to include detailed requirements specifications, addressing a clear industry need that many organizations overlooked. Forty years ago, UTSI became the first independent, vendor-neutral SCADA consulting firm. We have the experience, knowledge, and insight to help operators tackle the challenges of a SCADA project.

Our ICS consulting team creates thorough requirements specifications for projects. These cover SCADA, communications, RTUs/PLCs, HMI standards, operating procedures, and advanced applications such as leak detection and real-time models. We also offer engineering and system design expertise to ensure that infrastructure is properly instrumented and operated to meet both current and future project goals. This method ensures that systems are reliable, scalable, and meet each operator’s expectations.

Display Development and Standardization

Our display conversion and new display development services offer a complete solution for upgrading old SCADA systems to modern HMI platforms. When possible, we automate the conversion of existing display objects, such as static labels, real-time values, and device status indicators, into flexible formats that fit a new or upgraded SCADA system. The approach we use depends on the technical details of both the old and new HMI systems.

Even when conversion or new display development needs manual work, or a mix of manual and automated methods, our process ensures accuracy and follows HMI standards. We also meet API 1165 and other relevant requirements. This focus on detail supports standardization, reduces errors, and simplifies complex updates. It makes the transition to upgraded SCADA consulting platforms smooth, improves system performance, and lowers overall project costs.

P2P Testing

Testing

UTSI International Corporation has extensive experience in point-to-point (P2P) testing. We use a careful and organized method to check SCADA system performance, functionality, and data accuracy. P2P testing is crucial to ensure that data flows correctly between remote field devices and the control center. It also ensures that alarms, controls, and displays function as they should.

Our team conducts both offline simulation testing and live field validation. This confirms that every SCADA database point communicates correctly, triggers alarms accurately, and displays the right information. We follow all relevant regulations during testing and provide detailed documentation along with solutions for any issues we find.

This organized approach guarantees that SCADA upgrades or new installations run smoothly. It minimizes downtime and supports safe and reliable operations. Proper testing gives operators confidence that their systems are ready for daily use without disruptions.

US4™ Scada Support Services

US4™ is UTSI’s flagship branded service that defines the standard for with our state-of-the-art control center operations, maintenance, and support. It provides reliable control center support, regular maintenance, tailored solutions, and strong cybersecurity measures to keep your control center dependable, safe, and efficient.

US4™ services can be offered in various ways, such as on-call remote support or full-time on-site help. In some cases, UTSI takes on the complete responsibility of maintenance and support for operators who do not want to keep internal expertise. This guarantees that even the most complex SCADA environments run at their best while remaining safe and secure.

Control Room Management (CRM)

UTSI has helped many operators choose and implement technologies and solutions to meet CRM compliance requirements under API 1168 and relevant sections of 49 CFR Parts 192 and 195 for gas and liquid pipelines. In some cases, we have also developed and maintained custom CRM features to fit an operator’s specific documentation, record-keeping, and internal standards.

Some operators use a mix of commercial CRM systems with custom adjustments, and UTSI has the experience to manage these complex setups. We continue to support control centers of all sizes, ensuring reliable and compliant CRM operations while meeting each operator’s unique needs.

Unified Namespace (UNS)

UNS is a modern, centralized data structure that connects all layers of a SCADA consulting or OT system, including devices, PLCs, HMIs, MES, and enterprise systems, into a single, real-time source of truth. By using protocols like MQTT and Sparkplug B, UNS supports scalable, event-driven communication and smooth data flow across systems. When orgizations implement UNS in SCADA environments, they benefit from:

  • Improved access to data across teams and systems
  • Less complexity when connecting new devices and platforms
  • Real-time visibility from the field to the enterprise
  • A strong foundation for IIoT, analytics, and AIan

This method replaces separate, siloed systems with a unified, flexible, and secure model, helping organizations adopt new technology while maintaining smooth operations.
